Seaview House is located in the small village of Langstone overlooking Chichester Harbour. The brief was, on a modest budget, to modernise a 1960s end of terrace house with an existing 1970s loft conversion. The ground floor kitchen and separate living / dining room was combined into a single space with a dividing wall of storage units, accessed from both sides, and a large serving hatch to maintain connection. A second storage wall between the kitchen and entrance hall allows wall cupboards to remain flush with the wall and make the most of the small space and full width window. Worktops, splashbacks and window sill are in white Corian.
In the entrance hall a wall of cupboards provides useful storage and home for the washing machine. Matching storage units with white lacquered doors on push-release catches fill the under stair space and provide more efficient storage space.
Key to the success of the scheme was restoration of the original five finger teak parquet floor and laying of a new matching floor in the kitchen over underfloor heating to give a seamless expanse of teak throughout the ground floor.
The second floor room is divided to form a master bedroom with en suite bathroom and dressing room. The existing dormer window was refurbished and Velux windows installed in the dressing room, bathroom and second floor landing. Hollow core doors were replaced with white painted solid core doors with modern satin stainless ironmongery by Allgood. Moulded architrave and skirtings were replaced in white painted mdf with square edge profile. Ceilings were either skimmed or over-boarded and skimmed and the walls skimmed or repaired.
The family bathroom on the first floor was completely re-fitted and fully tiled to match the en suite on the second floor with bath, wall mounted wc and basin all by Duravit. A new smart controlled gas boiler with pressurised storage cylinder was installed in the attic space above the second floor, and new Reina designer radiators installed throughout. Walls and ceilings are finished in white matt emulsion, doors, skirtings and architrave in white satin oil based gloss paint. The overall mood of the refurbished house is bright, modern, minimal and calm.
